City Manager Recruitment Process

The City of Culver City (City) is recruiting for their next City Manager as the current City Manager (John Nachbar) is planning to retire at the end of December 2025.

After a competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) process, the City has selected and engaged with the external recruitment firm, Tri Star Gov Solutions, to recruit for the City’s next City Manager. Click here for more information on Tri Star Gov Solutions.

As a commitment to transparency, below are key recruitment milestones to keep the community informed of the process.

Please note: The below dates are tentative and subject to change.

  • June 22, 2025 - City Council Closed Session Meeting:
    Kick Off Meeting with Tri Star Gov and City Council
  • June 14, 2025 - City Council Closed Session Meeting:
    Tri Star Gov Presentation to City Council
  • Week of July 15 – August 1, 2025:
    Online Community Survey Published – open until August 1st at 5 PM 
  • August 11, 2025 - City Council Closed Session Meeting:
    Tri Star Gov Presentation to City Council
  • June 23 – August 11, 2025:
    Tri Star Gov to Conduct Stakeholder Engagement
  • August 27 – September 24, 2025:

  • August 27 – October 3, 2025:

The City of Culver City is in the process of selecting its next City Manager—a vital leadership role responsible for overseeing day-to-day city operations, managing City departments and services, and helping achieve the City Council’s goals for our community. We want to hear from you! The City Council values community input to ensure the next City Manager understands the priorities, challenges, and expectations of the people who live and work here. Your feedback will help guide the selection process and shape the qualities, skills, and priorities we look for in candidates.

The survey asks about:

  • The most important challenges facing Culver City in the coming years
  • The qualities and skills you think the next City Manager should have
  • The top priorities you’d like them to focus on in their first year
  • How you’d like to engage with City leadership

Salary Schedule

The City of Culver City employs approximately 800 full and part-time personnel in nearly 300 different job classifications. The link to the document below provides a quick reference to the compensation provided to each classification.

3. Review

Before submitting your application, review the material to ensure that all information is filled out truthfully and to the best of your ability. Once you submit the on-line application you will not be able to make any updates.

4. Submit the Application

After you have submitted your application, you will receive an email confirmation. You can also check your Government Jobs Account for verification that your application was sent successfully.

After the posted closing date, all applications are reviewed. Applicants will be notified via email, typically about two weeks after the closing date. Individuals qualified for the position will be notified of the next steps in the process. All communication will be emailed, so check your spam folder or safelist emails from NeoGov and Governmentjobs.com.
