Expedited Solar Permits

Culver City is proud to announce its partnership with Symbium to provide an automated permit platform that streamlines the review and approval process for instant Solar & ESS Permits.

Contractors and homeowners seeking to pull permits under Senate Bill (SB) 379 will be able to apply for instantaneous plan review for approval via the Symbium portal. 

You may begin your application below by first verifying the address is within our city limits.

Step 1.Complete all of the required permitting and project documents

Ensure your contractor holds an A, B, C-10 or a C-46 license. 

Step 2.Complete and Submit your Application

How to apply for an instant residential solar and/or battery storage permit:

  • Click the ‘Get Started’ button above and enter the property address.
  • Select the ‘Rooftop Solar or Battery Storage’ button. 
  • Answer questions about the proposed solar energy system.
    Symbium instantly checks for compliance with State and local regulations and provides substantive analysis of why (or why not) the project meets code requirements.
  • Apply for a permit online. You don’t have to leave Symbium to submit your permit application.
    Using Symbium, your permit will be issued automatically, without manual review or an in-person visit. Symbium even automatically verifies your contractor’s and business licenses.
  • Stay informed. You will receive status updates via email as well as on your Symbium dashboard.

Step 3.Project Permitting

Permits will be issued in real time when you apply on Symbium and after the City permit fees are paid.

 

 

Alternative Permit Option

Applicants seeking to apply for residential roof top systems or energy storage systems outside of the platform, or for those that are disqualified from utilizing the system, can still submit electronically by emailing the Electrical Permit Application(PDF, 685KB) to Building.Safety@culvercity.org and then undergoing the plan review process.
