Enviro-Fest 2025
Join the Environmental Programs and Operations (EPO) Division of Public Works in celebrating Arbor Day, Earth Day, and International Composting Week with Enviro-fest! Please join us at the Veterans Park and the Wende Museum and take part in the following activities!
Compost & Fruit Tree Giveaway
EPO will be giving away compost, mulch, fruit trees, and vegetable plants while supplies last.
How do I get a tree or plant?
Go to the EPO Information booth to receive a ticket for either a tree or vegetable plant. Ticket-holders will be called throughout the event to come pick their trees or plants. Anyone getting a tree or plant is required to take compost. Attendees must be present to claim their tree or plant when they are called.
What should I bring?
This is a self-haul event so bring a shovel - residents are responsible for shoveling and bagging their own compost in garbage bags, yard waste bags, reusable containers, pick-up bed, or trailer.
How do I use this compost in my garden?
Compost is ready to go but recommended to be mixed with topsoil or another gardening fill. For best growing results, a 60/40 split (60% topsoil and 40% compost) is recommended.
Where does this free compost come from?
Athens, where every day is Earth Day! Athens is part of the recycling loop by receiving local Culver City organic material and creating beneficial soil amendments to help grow healthy foods. The compost material is OMRI Listed (Organic Materials Review Institute) and licensed by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA); it is approved to be used in agricultural operations that are certified organic under the USDA National Organic Program.
E-Waste Collection & Paper-Shredding
EPO will be co-hosting an e-waste collection and paper-shredding event with Homeboy Industries.
