Culver City: Colorful Communities Poster Program
Culver City: Colorful Communities – A New Arts Program
Culver City: Colorful Communities (CC:CC), a new pilot program, celebrates Culver City's vibrant and diverse neighborhoods through the unique perspective of local visual artists. This program emphasizes the unique, handmade quality of art where new and original two-dimensional artworks are created, showcasing each artist's vision and the distinct characteristics and details of a specific neighborhood. Visual artists will design commemorative posters that depict the unique history, culture, and character of different communities across Culver City.
For the first cycle (2025–2026), posters will feature five neighborhoods: Blair Hills, Culver/West, Fox Hills, Lucerne/Higuera, and Sunkist Park. Future cycles will include other neighborhoods across the City.
This program offers professional artists in Los Angeles County—especially those who live or work in Culver City—the opportunity to create artwork that builds community pride, tells our stories, and makes art more accessible to everyone.
The Cultural Affairs Division invites professional visual artists and artist teams residing in Los Angeles County to submit qualifications in this first of a two-stage competitive process for the 2025-2026 Culver City: Colorful Communities (CC:CC) program. Visual artists/artist teams who live or work in Culver City or neighboring cities are highly encouraged to apply.
Supported by the Cultural Affairs Commission and funded by the Cultural Trust Fund.

Artist Selection Committee - Five Neighborhood Representatives Selected
The Cultural Affairs Division is successful in recruiting five neighborhood representatives to serve on the Artist Selection Committee. Each representative was required to attend a virtual scoring orientation and sign a Confidentiality and Conflict of Interest Agreement. Then, the representatives received electronic access to the twenty-five applications; the representatives are currently reviewing and scoring the twenty-five (25) eligible applications, selecting the top five artists to create original artworks that will be translated into collectible posters.
The following four scoring criteria, with a possible score of 100 points total, were included in the scoring guidelines and provided to the five representatives.
- Artistic Excellence of Qualification, Materials, Techniques, and Concepts (Up to 30 points)
- Potential Compatibility of Artist's Art Practice to Align with the Program's Objectives (Up to 30 points)
- Equity and Inclusion Commitment (Up to 25 points)
- Public Engagement Experience & Approach (Up to 15 points)
Each representative will submit their scores to the Cultural Affairs Division by Thursday, January 8, 2026. The Cultural Affairs Commission Public Art Subcommittee and Cultural Affairs Division Staff will meet to finalize the top five artist recommendations from the Artist Selection Committee on Thursday, January 15, 2026. Factors such as the artist's qualifications, past work samples, artist statements, style, technique, and potential ability to successfully produce an artwork that appropriately reflect the neighborhood of which the five top artists are randomly assigned.
If the Cultural Affairs Commission Public Art Subcommittee members approve the Artist Selection Committee's recommendation, then Cultural Affairs Division staff will advance the recommendation to the Cultural Affairs Commission for final approval at its February 17, 2026 meeting. Award and declination notifications will be sent to all artists by the end of February 2026.
