The California Building Standards Commission (CBSC) has formally accepted for filing Ordinance No. 2025-013(PDF, 801KB) and Resolution No. 2025-071(PDF, 392KB) , which amend portions of the 2022 California Building Standards Code (Title 24) to allow single exit stairway configurations in 4-6 story multi-story residential buildings, including an elevator requirement for single exit stairway buildings that are 5-6 stories.
This newly approved ordinance (City Council Meeting September 29, 2025) reflects Culver City’s ongoing commitment to:
• Encourage innovative housing design and more efficient use of urban space
• Maintain high levels of safety and code compliance for residential construction
• Support housing production while promoting architectural flexibility
The ordinance was reviewed and accepted by the CBSC on September 30, 2025.
